The Tagus River flows from east to west through the center of the Iberian Peninsula. It originates in the Montes Universales of Spain and traverses the peninsula for approximately 1,000 km before pouring into the Atlantic Ocean in Portugal. The estuary portion of the river is a vast lagoon, and the city of Lisbon, the capital, stretches along its right bank. From the hilltop of Alfama, Lisbon's old town, you will see the Tagus as wide as the sea, the quaint red-roofed townscape, and the luxury cruise ships docked there. Enjoy a beautiful morning scene as the sun bathes it all in a golden hue.
