Hallstatt is located at the far end of the Salzkammergut, where glacier-created lakes dot the Alpine mountains. The town, with its traditional houses lining the steep mountainside by the lake, has long prospered from salt mining. The scenery, which blends in with the surrounding nature, is wonderful, and the town is known as “the most beautiful lakeside town in the world”.
From the high ground in the town, you can see the symbolic church, Lake Hallstatt and even the small castle on the opposite shore. There is also a train station on the opposite shore, and a ferry boat carries passengers from the station to the town. Enjoy the picturesque scenery of the townscape, lake and mountains under the cloudy sky typical of the Alps.
