Cape Puyuni, which juts out into the vast Sea of Okhotsk, is located a little to the northeast of the Utoro area, the base for Shiretoko sightseeing. From the observation deck near the cape, you can see the center of the Utoro area, the landmark Oronko Rock, and the Sea of Okhotsk stretching out as far as the eye can see.
The drift ice of the Sea of Okhotsk reaches its peak every year from mid-February to early March. On this clear day, you can clearly see the drift ice filling Utoro Fishing Port and the coast from the observation deck. Enjoy the beautiful contrast between the blue sky, sea, and pure white drift ice, and the refreshing cold air that seems to be transmitted to you, from the comfort of your own warm room.
