"Dawn at Hashiguiiwa Rocks" and 5 more views added

In Kushimoto, at the southern tip of Wakayama Prefecture, Hashiguiiwa is a line of striking rock formations stretching about 850 meters from the coast out toward Oshima Island. Named for their resemblance to bridge piles, more than 40 rocks stand in a row. Designated as both a Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument of Japan, this unique landscape changes with the weather and the tides.

Formed over some 15 million years, the rocks are also linked to a fascinating legend that the monk Kobo Daishi built them in a single night. This long-celebrated site is said to be most beautiful at dawn. Watch the sky shift into soft gradients, the rocks appear in silhouette, and the sea change color—an ever-changing scene to enjoy from your window.
