Merlion Park sits near the mouth of the Singapore River, home to the iconic Merlion statue known to everyone as a symbol of Singapore. With the financial district rising behind it, the powerful stream of water bursting from its mouth gives it the presence of a guardian watching over the ever-evolving Marina Bay.
The statue originally stood at a different spot starting in 1972, but after the Esplanade Bridge was built and blocked the view from Marina Bay, it was moved in 2002 to the newly created park where it stands today.
