Historic Centre of Salzburg
Located in central Austria near the border with Germany, Salzburg is the capital of the region whose name means “Salt Castle.” True to its name, the city flourished through the trade of rock salt mined in the surrounding area. Its Old Town, rich in medieval charm, is filled with landmarks, including the Hohensalzburg Fortress that overlooks the city from the hill above.
At the foot of Mönchsberg hill, which borders the western side of the Old Town, lies the Humboldt Terrace. Among several lookout spots, this one stands out for its clear view of the Salzach River flowing right below. Take in the serene river, the surrounding mountains, and the harmonious beauty of this historic cityscape.
