Mouth of Klamath River
The Klamath River flows from Oregon through California into the Pacific Ocean. Salmon and rainbow trout swimming upstream have long been an important food source for Indigenous peoples who have lived in the river basin for at least 7,000 years. The river still supports the surrounding communities and natural environment and is popular for rafting and canoeing.
In 2024, the removal of all four dams was completed, restoring a more natural flow after a century. The project is expected to encourage more fish to migrate upstream and enrich the ecosystem throughout the basin. Enjoy this majestic view of the sandbar at the mouth of the Klamath River, where Pacific waves roll ashore.
