Artist & Researcher
Naoko Tosa
Naoko Tosa advocates 'Cultural Computing,' a field that uses digital imagery to express the culture humans have accumulated through history—emotions, consciousness, narratives, and ethnicity. Her work is internationally acclaimed; notable projects include 'Neuro Baby,' an AI that recognizes emotions exhibited at Ars Electronica in 1993, and a commissioned work for the 2012 Yeosu Expo in Korea, where she projected a dragon on a massive 350m x 30m LED screen. Her portfolio also includes 'Silence' and 'Landscape over the Clouds' dedicated to Kennin-ji Temple in Kyoto, as well as 'ZEN Computer,' 'Space Flower,' and 'Genesis,' created during her fellowship at the MIT Center for Visual Studies.
