Dom Luís I Bridge and Porto
The Dom Luís I Bridge connects Porto’s historic Old Town with Vila Nova de Gaia on the opposite bank of the Douro River. Opened in 1886, this iron bridge is known for its elegant arch and distinctive double-deck structure, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site along with Porto’s historic cityscape. Both the upper and lower levels are open to pedestrians, and the upper deck also carries Metro Line D.
This view looks out over the Douro River and Porto’s Old Town from the nearby hilltop Monastery of Serra do Pilar, itself a UNESCO World Heritage site. As evening falls, the bridge is gently lit in warm tones, and lights begin to glow across the old city. Share a quiet moment with travelers lingering on the bridge and enjoy this soothing evening scene.
